Facilities

All pupils have access to the school’s facilities. In their time at Hayward pupils can expect to use:

  • the latest technology available in school, in all areas of the curriculum
  • the full range of sports facilities, including extensive playing fields, an all-weather pitch, a gymnasium, a modern sports’ hall and tennis courts
  • the Study Support Centre, incorporating a well-stocked library and ICT facilities. The library is open for all pupils, though we set aside times for particular year groups to use this facility.

The school minibus is used for a number of events and activities, for example transporting school teams, the steel band and taking pupils on trips and visits.

Pupils are encouraged to make full use of the facilities and to develop a sense of being part of the Hayward Community.

Physical Education

All pupils at Hayward are given the opportunity to participate at club and team level in a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities, including: Football, Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Cricket, Tennis, Rounders, Athletics, Cross Country, Aerobics and Martial Arts. Hayward pupils have represented the School at Town, County, North West and Greater Manchester Youth Games level.

Drama

Theatre visits and drama workshops are included within the curriculum or as an extended curriculum activity. Pupils are given the experience of performing in annual school events, i.e. Prize Giving and arts performances.

Music

Pupils have the opportunity to learn to play an orchestral instrument, within the curriculum or as an extra curricular activity. They can join the steel band, choir and a selection of music groups, and perform at public events, festivals and special school occasions.

Clubs and Societies

Pupils are actively encouraged to join and participate in a wide variety of lunchtime and after school clubs and societies. These clubs and societies further pupils’ interests across the curriculum and encourage independent learning skills. Examples include Homework Club, Chess Club, Computer Club, History Club and a First Aid course.

Trips and Visits

During the school year, visits are organised by subject staff to further pupils’ knowledge and experience. Recent visits have been made to Europe, hydro-electric power stations, theatres, sporting events and television studios.
