Links with business and the community
Pupils
are encouraged to use the local business community to
enhance their learning, through project work for G.C.S.E.
examinations, visits to local companies and by receiving
visitors into school.
Links with local colleges
Hayward enjoys close links with 6th
Form and Further Education colleges in the Bolton area.
Pupils visit local colleges to find out about courses
and to talk with tutors and students about their work.
Tutors also visit the school.
Work experience
All pupils in their last year of statutory
education at Hayward are entitled to take part in the
schools Work Experience Scheme. They spend two
weeks working in local companies and organisations,
experiencing the work atmosphere and identifying the
necessary skills to operate effectively in the world
of work.
Young enterprise
Pupils in the Upper School have the
opportunity to work with representatives of local companies
in the Young Enterprise Scheme. Through this they gain
experience of setting up and running a mini-company,
thereby gaining additional insights into the world of
work.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is run for Upper School
pupils at both Bronze and Silver level.
The object is to provide an introduction
to worthwhile leisure activities and voluntary service,
whilst developing an individuals confidence.
Pupils learn new skills, take an active
part in physical recreation and complete an expedition.
Learning to work as a team and consideration
for others are integral parts of the award.
The Friends of Hayward Association
This
has been established to further develop links between
the school, parents and local organisations. It aims
to enhance the schools environment by supporting
the teaching and learning taking place, as well as providing
opportunities for pupils to be aware of and appreciate
the community which surrounds the school.
